There are three major existential questions asked by mankind since the dawn of creation, actually, since the fall of mankind: Who am I? Where did I come from? and Where am I going? What is it about these questions that cause the heart of mankind to search for answers? Why do many go on extensive pilgrimages in order to find the answers to these profound yet simple question?
Why are they profound? Because they deal with the origins of the human race. Why simple? Because God in His word has answered all these questions for the human race and given them a solution to the massive hole in their lives by offering something that nothing can compare to it. Hope. A hope that is based on the fact that God created you, you were thought of before you were conceived, you are going home to be with Him for all eternity.
While we are in the waiting period of His return to take us home, God has left to us a great and wonderful gift. A gift, that when embraced, gives life to mankind and purpose to human existence. What is that gift? The Sabbath. In the creation story of Genesis, we see that crowning act of creation is the creation of mankind. But not only this, but the intentional resting from God and His gift of the Sabbath for mankind.
When the human race chooses to honor this gift, everything in their lives change. Why? Because you are where your creator desires you to be . . . with Him! Every Sabbath day that passes in our sin-wicked world, we are learning to be with God, stay in God, desire God with all of our hearts, minds and souls.
I have had moments where the Sabbath has not been a time of resting in God, as such. I am drained, anxious, and exhausted by the pace of life. My life, your life, everyone's lives will benefit from the gift God has bestowed on His children. Now it's time to embrace it, honor it, keep it, love it, and develop our relationship with God during those sacred hours of rest.
May you this Sabbath find what your've been missing. May you find the gift of God for your life to be what you've been looking for!
So, until the next time, this is Pastor Tello reminding you that thoughts do change lives!
