Deconstruction. Have you heard this term? Deconstruction is not destruction, but a great way to reevaluate what's important in your life. It means taking the necessary time and deconstructing what you've built to see if there truly is a benefit. What have you built lately? My hope is that your spirituality has been built. Your marriage has been built. Your abilities as a parent have been built. And honestly, my hope is that what you've built has become stronger!
There are things, however, that we build that really need to be torn down. Idols. Inappropriate passions. Destructive habits. Bending our ears to harmful gossip. You name it. As we live in the world that we do it is apparent to all that notice...that we are living at a time when something has to give. I heard someone say lately that the Christian church has failed society. I don't think I agree with that. I don't think the Christian church has failed, but the Christian has.
Mahatma Gandhi was quoted saying, "I like your Christ. I do not like you Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." Those are powerfully stinging words. Especially since we claim to be Christian; followers of the Master Jesus. This Sabbath we are journeying in the Biblical narrative of the 1st Plague of Egypt. We will learn something about "Shemof" the Hebrew name for the book of Exodus. Remember that Shemot means...names.
Some names will be brought out in order for our minds to realize that God needs to deconstruct those names in our lives and make His name supreme! He is the de-creative God that will de-create those things that are harmful for us and completely unnecessary for our Spiritual development. So, listen. Take notes. And get ready to learn about the decreative power of God!
So, until the next time, this is Pastor Tello reminding you that thoughts do change lives!
