Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication. The simple growth of my tomatoes is a marvel to me. I realize that there is a more biological and a more complex botany reality going on in the growth of my tomatoes . . . but for me, it's simple.
At this point of my green thumb journey, I have to water them, keep the weeds out and make sure they have the best environment for optimal growth. I can't control the elements of nature, that's God's department. But there are things I can do every day to ensure my tomatoes' success.
In the spiritual life, Jesus told us, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing." John 15:5, KJV. The simple act of abiding is the secret, if you will, of this passage. That's simple: we abide . . . Jesus causes the fruits to come!
Why is the human tendency to make things that are simple complicated? To answer that, it would take a long time. But, in essence, simple things are just . . . well . . . too simple. However, simple things make the complex realities of life understandable. This Sabbath, we are going to discover the simplicity of growing in Christ and who, what and why it's been difficult for the Christian to see, experience and sense the growth in Christ that is needed in our spiritual life.
Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication . . . therefore, buckle up and whip out your Bibles as we journey together in the Word of God on growing in Christ!
So, until the next time, this is Pastor Tello reminding you that thoughts do change lives!
